Clinical Overview
Burnout is a state of severe emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. In Ayurveda, this represents the ultimate stage of Ojo Kshaya (depletion of vital essence) and severe Vata aggravation. The body and mind simply have nothing left to give. Treatment is completely restorative, requiring absolute rest, deep cellular nourishment (Brimhana), and the gradual rebuilding of the Dhatus over time.
Emergency Warning Signs
Seek immediate conventional medical care if you experience any of the following:
- Complete inability to function, get out of bed, or perform basic hygiene
- Severe, unexplained physical pain or chronic infections (immune collapse)
- Profound apathy, depersonalization, or severe depression

Samprapti (Pathogenesis)
Relentless overwork (Atiyoga) burns through the Dhatus sequentially, starting from Rasa and ending in Shukra, ultimately destroying Ojas. The Agni (digestive fire) becomes incredibly weak, meaning even if the person eats, they cannot extract nourishment, leading to profound exhaustion.
Dosha
Severe Vata aggravation with Ojo Kshaya
Dhatu
All Dhatus are depleted (Sarva Dhatu Kshaya)
Srotas
Sarva Srotas (Systemic collapse)
Precision Treatment Protocol
Panchakarma Interventions
Classical Medicines
- chyawanprash
Key Herbs
- ashwagandha
- shatavari
- licorice
- bala
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I just take a vacation to cure burnout?
A vacation provides rest, but true burnout involves profound physiological depletion (Ojo Kshaya). Without actively rebuilding the tissues with specific Rasayana (rejuvenating) herbs, a nourishing diet, and Ayurvedic therapies, the exhaustion will return the moment you resume work.
