Clinical Overview

Low libido is a persistent lack of sexual desire or interest. In Ayurveda, healthy libido (Kama) is a natural expression of abundant Ojas (vitality) and balanced Shukra Dhatu. When a person suffers from chronic stress, fatigue, hormonal imbalance, or systemic illness, Ojas is depleted, leading to a loss of desire. Treatment focuses on holistic rejuvenation (Rasayana), stress reduction, and gently awakening reproductive vitality.

Emergency Warning Signs

Seek immediate conventional medical care if you experience any of the following:

  • Sudden, complete loss of libido accompanied by severe depression
  • Accompanied by sudden vision changes or severe headaches (pituitary issues)
  • Occurring immediately after starting a new medication

Symptomatology

Fatigue

Clinical manifestation characterized by fatigue. Ayurvedic assessment involves evaluating the specific Dosha and Srotas involvement underlying this symptom.

Classical Perspective

Samprapti (Pathogenesis)

Continuous physical or mental stress severely aggravates Vata and depletes Rasa Dhatu. This depletion cascades down to Shukra Dhatu and ultimately depletes Ojas. Without Ojas and healthy Shukra, the natural psychological and physical desire for intimacy (Kama) cannot manifest.

Srotas

Frequently Asked Questions

Is low libido a physical or mental issue?

Ayurveda views it as a holistic issue. Mental burnout directly depletes physical vitality (Ojas), and physical illness dampens mental enthusiasm. Our treatments use Medhya (brain-tonic) herbs to lift the mood and Vajikarana (reproductive) herbs to restore physical energy, treating both simultaneously.
