Greeva Abhyanga is a specialized therapeutic massage for the cervical spine (neck) and upper shoulders. It is essential for treating modern occupational hazards like "tech neck" and chronic cervical spondylosis.

Clinical Benefits

  • Relieves intense muscle spasms in the trapezius and neck muscles
  • Improves mobility and range of motion in the cervical spine
  • Reduces cervicogenic headaches and vertigo
  • Prevents degenerative changes in the neck joints

Clinical Procedure

1. Preparation (Purvakarma)

  • Patient sits upright or lies prone, depending on the targeted area.

2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)

Using warm medicated oils, the therapist applies focused friction and kneading strokes to the cervical paraspinal muscles, occipital ridge, and upper shoulders.

3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)

  • Followed by localized hot fomentation (Nadi Sweda).
  • Patient must avoid sudden jerky movements of the neck post-therapy.

Patient FAQs

Can this cure vertigo?

If the vertigo is cervicogenic (originating from neck stiffness and cervical spondylosis), Greeva Abhyanga is highly effective at reducing the symptoms by relieving nerve and vascular compression in the neck.
