Janu Abhyanga (Knee Massage)
in Bengaluru

Janu Abhyanga is a targeted massage for the knee joints. It is a primary Ayurvedic intervention for knee degeneration, sports injuries, and arthritis, focusing on reducing friction and nourishing the joint capsule.

Clinical Benefits

  • Improves synovial fluid circulation and joint lubrication
  • Reduces crepitus (cracking sounds) and pain during movement
  • Strengthens the ligaments and tendons surrounding the knee
  • Decreases localized swelling and inflammation

Clinical Procedure

1. Preparation (Purvakarma)

  • Patient lies supine with the knee slightly supported.

2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)

Warm, highly viscous medicated oils (like Mahanarayana or Kottamchukkadi) are massaged using circular motions over the patella and linear strokes along the collateral ligaments.

3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)

  • Often combined with Janu Basti (pooling of oil) or Patra Pinda Sweda (herbal bolus massage) for maximum effect.

Patient FAQs

Will this regenerate my knee cartilage?

While it cannot regrow severely destroyed cartilage, it significantly reduces the inflammation, strengthens the surrounding muscles, and improves lubrication, which often drastically reduces pain and improves mobility without surgery.
