Kashaya Basti (Decoction Enema)
in Bengaluru

Kashaya Basti (often synonymous with Niruha Basti) is a therapeutic enema where the primary liquid is a strong herbal decoction (Kashaya) mixed with honey, rock salt, oil, and herbal pastes. It actively pulls morbid doshas (especially Vata) and toxins out of the colon.

Clinical Benefits

  • The ultimate treatment for severe Vata disorders (arthritis, paralysis, sciatica)
  • Deeply cleanses the colon, removing years of accumulated toxins (Ama)
  • Rapidly cures chronic, obstinate constipation and severe bloating
  • Helps in weight loss by flushing out excess Kapha and Meda (fat)

Clinical Procedure

1. Preparation (Purvakarma)

  • The patient receives localized Abhyanga (massage) and Swedana (steam) over the abdomen and lower back.
  • An emulsion is prepared by rigorously mixing honey, rock salt, oil, herbal paste, and decoction in a specific sequence.

2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)

The patient lies in the left lateral position. The medicated liquid is gently administered into the rectum using a specialized basti yantra (enema pouch and nozzle).

3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)

  • The patient rests until the urge to defecate occurs (usually within 5 to 45 minutes).
  • After evacuation, the patient bathes and is given a light meal.

Patient FAQs

Is this painful or uncomfortable?

When administered by a trained therapist, it is completely painless. The liquid is body temperature, and the volume is carefully calibrated, leading to a profound sense of lightness after evacuation.
