Kati Abhyanga (Lower Back Massage)
in Bengaluru
Kati Abhyanga is a targeted massage focusing entirely on the lumbosacral region (Kati). It is specifically designed to alleviate lower back pain, release fascial tightness, and relieve nerve compressions like sciatica.
Clinical Benefits
- Reduces muscle spasms and rigidity in the lower back
- Alleviates radiating pain associated with sciatica
- Improves local blood circulation and cellular repair in the lumbar spine
- Strengthens the supporting musculature of the lower back
Clinical Procedure
1. Preparation (Purvakarma)
- • Patient lies comfortably in a prone position.
- • Warm, Vata-pacifying oils (like Murivenna or Sahacharadi) are prepared.
2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)
The therapist applies deep, rhythmic strokes focusing on the erector spinae muscles, the sacroiliac joint, and the gluteal region, targeting specific trigger points.
3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)
- • Usually followed by Nadi Sweda (local steam) or Kati Basti (oil pooling) for maximum benefit.
Patient FAQs
Is deep pressure used if I have a slipped disc?
No. If a disc prolapse is diagnosed, the massage is extremely gentle. The goal is to apply the medicated oil to reduce inflammation and relax surrounding muscle spasms, not to forcibly manipulate the spine.
