Kati Basti (Lower Back Oil Pooling)
in Bengaluru
Kati Basti is one of the most famous Ayurvedic therapies for lower back pain. Warm medicated oil is pooled in a dough ring placed over the lumbo-sacral region (Kati). It deeply relaxes paraspinal muscles and relieves nerve compression.
Clinical Benefits
- Provides profound relief from chronic lower back pain and sciatica
- Relaxes severe muscle spasms in the lumbar region
- Nourishes degenerated intervertebral discs (Lumbar Spondylosis)
- Improves blood circulation to the pelvic and lower back nerves
Clinical Procedure
1. Preparation (Purvakarma)
- • The patient lies prone. A firm boundary of black gram dough is built over the affected lumbar vertebrae (usually L3-S1).
2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)
Warm medicated oil (like Sahacharadi or Kottamchukkadi) is poured into the ring. The heat is maintained continuously by swapping the oil as it cools.
3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)
- • The oil is removed, and a gentle massage is given to the lower back, followed by localized steam (Nadi Sweda).
Patient FAQs
Is this effective for a slipped disc?
Yes, Kati Basti is highly effective for herniated (slipped) discs. The heat and specific herbs relax the severe muscle spasms that often pull the vertebrae out of alignment, relieving pressure on the compressed nerve.
