Ksheera Basti (Medicated Milk Enema)
in Bengaluru

Ksheera Basti is a highly nourishing (Brumhana) enema where milk (Ksheera) is used as the primary liquid base instead of a harsh herbal decoction. It is specifically used for conditions involving severe tissue depletion (Dhatu Kshaya) and high Pitta.

Clinical Benefits

  • The gold standard treatment for Osteoporosis (Asthi Kshaya) and bone degeneration
  • Highly nourishing for wasted muscles and severe neurological deficits
  • Cools the body, making it excellent for Pitta-Vata combinations (like burning neuropathy)
  • Improves fertility and strengthens the reproductive organs in women

Clinical Procedure

1. Preparation (Purvakarma)

  • Cow's milk is boiled with strengthening herbs (like Ashwagandha, Bala) and mixed with a small amount of ghee and honey.

2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)

Administered rectally in the left lateral position, similar to standard Basti, but often retained longer due to its nourishing nature.

3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)

  • The patient rests and evacuates when the urge arises.

Patient FAQs

Why use milk in an enema?

The colon has a massive capacity for absorption. Delivering medicated milk rectally bypasses the digestive acids of the stomach, allowing the bone-strengthening and nerve-nourishing properties of the milk and herbs to enter the bloodstream directly.
