Ksheera Dhooma (Medicated Milk Steam)
in Bengaluru

Ksheera Dhooma involves directing the therapeutic steam generated from boiling medicated cow's milk (rather than water) over the face, neck, or affected area. It is deeply nourishing (Brumhana Sweda) and specifically indicated for Vata disorders of the face.

Clinical Benefits

  • The best fomentation therapy for Facial Paralysis (Bell's Palsy) and TMJ disorders
  • Provides deep, moist, nourishing heat that heals damaged cranial nerves
  • Relieves intense pain in Trigeminal Neuralgia without drying the tissues
  • Soothes dry cough and vocal cord strain when inhaled

Clinical Procedure

1. Preparation (Purvakarma)

  • Cow's milk is boiled with Vata-pacifying herbs (like Bala or Dashamoola) in a closed vessel with a tube attached.

2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)

The mild, nourishing steam (Ksheera Dhooma) emerging from the tube is directed carefully over the face, jaw, or neck of the patient.

3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)

  • The face is gently wiped with a soft cloth.
  • Patient must avoid cold air or wind strictly.

Patient FAQs

Why use milk steam instead of regular water steam?

Water steam (Bashpa Sweda) is depleting and drying; it removes toxins but aggravates severe Vata. Milk steam is nourishing and heavy. For facial paralysis (a severe Vata disorder causing wasting), the tissues need deep nourishment, not depletion.
