Surgical/Para-surgical Protocol

Lekhana (Surgical Scraping)
in Bengaluru

Lekhana translates to scraping. Surgically, it involves using a rough or slightly sharp instrument to scrape away hard, thickened, dead, or hyper-pigmented tissue that is obstructing healing or normal skin function.

Clinical Benefits

  • Removes the thick, dead edges of chronic ulcers, allowing new skin to grow over
  • Excellent for treating very thick, localized Psoriasis patches or hard corns
  • Stimulates fresh blood flow to heavily scarred or thickened (lichenified) skin
  • Removes heavy tartar from teeth (in dentistry)

Clinical Procedure

1. Preparation (Purvakarma)

  • The area may be softened first using oil or steam.

2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)

Using a specific scraping instrument (or sometimes rough leaves/powders for milder cases), the thickened, dead tissue is aggressively scraped until a healthy, slightly pink/bleeding layer is reached.

3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)

  • Astringent or healing (Ropana) pastes are applied immediately to soothe the area and promote new, healthy tissue growth.

Patient FAQs

Why scrape a wound edge?

In chronic ulcers, the edges become hard and calloused, acting like a wall that prevents new skin cells from creeping across the wound to close it. Scraping destroys this wall, "waking up" the wound to heal.
