Mardana (Deep Tissue Massage)
in Bengaluru

Mardana is a specialized deep tissue Ayurvedic massage. Unlike the gentle, sweeping strokes of Abhyanga, Mardana applies strong, deep pressure using the palms, knuckles, and forearms to break down muscular knots and deep fascial adhesions.

Clinical Benefits

  • Breaks down chronic muscle spasms and deep tissue adhesions
  • Accelerates recovery for athletes and those involved in heavy physical labor
  • Relieves deep-seated Vata blockages in the musculature
  • Improves flexibility and structural alignment

Clinical Procedure

1. Preparation (Purvakarma)

  • Warm, highly penetrating oils (like Murivenna or Kottamchukkadi) are applied to the body.

2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)

The therapist uses body weight, knuckles, and sometimes the feet (Chavutti Thirumal in Kerala tradition) to apply intense, sustained pressure along the muscle fibers and Marma points.

3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)

  • Patient must undergo Swedana (steam) immediately to flush out the lactic acid released from the deep tissues.

Patient FAQs

Will I feel sore after Mardana?

Yes, because it is a deep tissue therapy, you may feel mild muscle soreness the next day, similar to a good workout. This is normal as deep toxins and lactic acid are released.
