Nadi Sweda (Localized Tube Steam)
in Bengaluru
Nadi Sweda is a highly targeted fomentation (sweating) therapy. Instead of a full-body steam cabin, therapeutic herbal steam generated in a pressure cooker-like vessel is directed precisely over painful joints or tight muscles through a specialized rubber or metal tube (Nadi).
Clinical Benefits
- Provides intense, localized heat to melt away severe muscle spasms (e.g., in Cervical Spondylosis)
- Highly effective for unlocking frozen joints (like Frozen Shoulder or stiff knees)
- Can be applied safely to specific areas while avoiding the head and heart
- Allows the therapist to manually massage the area while steaming it simultaneously
Clinical Procedure
1. Preparation (Purvakarma)
- • The patient receives a localized oil massage (Abhyanga).
- • A decoction of pain-relieving herbs (like Dashamoola) is boiled to generate steam.
2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)
The therapist directs the steam from the tube continuously over the painful joint, moving the nozzle constantly to avoid burning the skin, and uses their free hand to rub the heated oil into the muscle.
3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)
- • The sweat is wiped off. The patient must avoid exposure to cold air or AC immediately after.
Patient FAQs
Is this better than a hot water bag?
Yes. A hot water bag provides only dry, superficial heat. Nadi Sweda uses wet steam infused with powerful anti-inflammatory herbs, pushing the medicinal oils deep into the muscle tissue, resulting in much faster and longer-lasting relief.
