Parisheka Sweda (Pouring Fomentation)
in Bengaluru

Parisheka Sweda involves the continuous, rhythmic pouring of warm medicinal liquids (like herbal decoctions, milk, or fermented liquids) over the body from a specific height. It is a highly potent therapy for widespread pain, inflammation, and neuro-muscular disorders.

Clinical Benefits

  • Provides intense, uniform heat to soothe widespread body pain
  • Reduces inflammatory swelling and stiffness rapidly
  • Calms aggravated Pitta and Vata simultaneously (depending on the liquid used)
  • Improves peripheral circulation and deeply relaxes the nervous system

Clinical Procedure

1. Preparation (Purvakarma)

  • The patient lies on a special wooden table (Droni).
  • Large quantities of the specific liquid (Kashaya, Dhanyamla, or Ksheera) are prepared and warmed.

2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)

Two to four therapists synchronously pour the warm liquid over the patient's body using special vessels (Kindis) or cloths, accompanied by a light massage.

3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)

  • The body is wiped clean with a dry towel.
  • Patient rests for an hour before taking a warm bath.

Patient FAQs

How is this different from Pizhichil?

Pizhichil is a specific type of Parisheka that uses large amounts of warm medicated oil. Parisheka is a broader term that can use herbal decoctions (Kashaya), fermented liquids (Dhanyamla), or milk (Ksheera) depending on whether the condition requires drying out inflammation or deep nourishment.
