Phala Varti (Laxative Suppository)
in Bengaluru

Phala Varti is a highly specific, very safe rectal suppository made from natural fruit and herbal extracts (like Madanaphala, rock salt, and jaggery). It is the primary Ayurvedic emergency intervention for acute, obstinate constipation and severe gas lock.

Clinical Benefits

  • Induces a bowel movement rapidly, usually within 10 to 20 minutes
  • Completely safe for infants, children, and pregnant women (unlike harsh oral laxatives)
  • Does not cause cramping, dehydration, or laxative dependency
  • Helps relieve severe lower abdominal pain caused by trapped gas (Udavarta)

Clinical Procedure

1. Preparation (Purvakarma)

  • The Varti (suppository) is lubricated with a few drops of castor oil, ghee, or warm water.

2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)

The patient lies on their left side, and the suppository is gently pushed into the rectum.

3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)

  • The patient is advised to hold it in as long as possible (usually 10-20 minutes) until a strong urge to defecate occurs.
  • Complete evacuation follows naturally.

Patient FAQs

Are these safe for babies?

Yes, Phala Varti is one of the safest treatments for infant constipation. Because it acts locally through mild osmotic pressure (drawing water into the colon) rather than systemic chemical irritation, it is highly recommended for children.
