Piccha Basti is a highly specialized, intensely soothing, and mucilaginous (slimy/Picchila) enema. Formulated using milk, ghee, and mucilage-rich herbs like Salmalia malabarica, it is the primary Ayurvedic treatment for severe inflammatory bowel diseases and bleeding from the colon.
Clinical Benefits
- Creates a protective, soothing coating over severe intestinal ulcers

- Stops severe, uncontrolled diarrhea and dysentery
- Heals mucosal damage and reduces intense colon inflammation
Clinical Procedure
1. Preparation (Purvakarma)
- • A thick, slimy decoction is prepared using milk, ghee, honey, and herbs like Mocha-rasa (gum of Silk Cotton tree) and Licorice.
2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)
The cool or slightly lukewarm mucilaginous liquid is gently administered into the rectum.
3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)
- • The patient retains the enema as long as comfortable to allow the herbs to coat and heal the ulcers.
