Pinda Sweda (Bolus Fomentation)

Pinda Sweda is a highly specialized fomentation therapy where heated boluses (poultices) tied in cloth bags are rhythmically stamped and massaged over the body. It combines both oleation (Snehana) and sudation (Swedana) simultaneously.

Clinical Procedure
1. Preparation (Purvakarma)
- • A light oil massage is performed.
- • Poultices (Pindas) are prepared using various ingredients (herbal leaves, rice, powders) and heated in specific oils or liquids.
2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)
Two therapists rhythmically apply the heated boluses all over the body or on specific joints, continuously dipping the boluses in the hot liquid to maintain temperature.
3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)
- • The body is wiped with a dry towel.
- • Patient rests for an hour before taking a warm bath.

Yes, Pinda Sweda is a broad category. Depending on the disease, the bolus can be made of herbal leaves (Patra Pinda), special medicinal rice (Shashtika Shali), herbal powders (Churna Pinda), or even lemon (Jambira Pinda).
