Pracchanna (Scraping / Multiple Micro-Incisions)
in Bengaluru

Pracchanna is a method of localized bloodletting where multiple, very superficial micro-incisions or scratches are made over a specific affected area (like a thick psoriasis patch or a bald spot) to let out trapped vitiated blood.

Clinical Benefits

  • Highly effective for localized, thick, hard skin lesions that don't respond to ointments
  • Stimulates hair follicles and blood flow in Alopecia Areata (patchy hair loss)
  • Breaks down localized blood stagnation and severe itching
  • Prepares thick skin lesions to absorb herbal pastes (Lepas) deeply

Clinical Procedure

1. Preparation (Purvakarma)

  • The localized area is cleaned thoroughly with antiseptic herbal lotions.

2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)

Using a sterile surgical blade or specific Ayurvedic instrument, the physician makes multiple, very fine, superficial parallel scratches over the lesion. Blood is allowed to ooze out slightly.

3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)

  • The oozing blood is wiped away, and a specific medicinal paste (Lepa) or astringent powder is applied to seal the micro-cuts.

Patient FAQs

Does this leave scars?

No, the scratches are extremely superficial—only breaking the topmost layer of the skin (epidermis) to release trapped capillary blood, similar to micro-needling.
