Prastara Sweda (Bed Fomentation)
in Bengaluru
Prastara Sweda is a traditional method of sudation where a bed is prepared using specific boiled medicinal leaves, grains, and herbs. The patient lies on this heated, herbal bed, receiving sustained and deeply penetrating heat.
Clinical Benefits
- Provides uniform, sustained heat to the entire back and spine
- Highly effective for severe Vata disorders like Ankylosing Spondylitis
- Induces profound sweating and detoxification
- Relaxes deep paraspinal muscle spasms
Clinical Procedure
1. Preparation (Purvakarma)
- • A bed of specific leaves (like Eranda, Arka) and grains is boiled and spread over a stone or wooden slab, covered with a thin silk or cotton cloth.
2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)
After an oil massage (Abhyanga), the patient lies directly on this heated herbal bed and is covered with blankets to trap the heat and induce sweating.
3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)
- • Once sufficient sweating is achieved, the patient is wiped dry and allowed to cool down gradually.
Patient FAQs
Is it uncomfortably hot to lie on the bed?
No, the temperature is carefully monitored by the therapist, and a protective cloth is placed between the herbs and your skin to ensure the heat is deeply soothing, not burning.
