Snehapana (Internal Oleation)
in Bengaluru
Snehapana involves the systemic oral administration of progressively increasing doses of medicated ghee (Ghrita) or oil over several days. It is a mandatory preparatory step for Vamana and Virechana, designed to detach toxins from deep tissues and bring them to the GI tract.
Clinical Benefits
- Loosens and detaches deep-seated morbid doshas from the tissues (Dhatus)
- Lubricates all internal micro-channels, facilitating the movement of toxins
- Deeply nourishes the nervous system and skin
- Prepares the body for profound cellular cleansing without tissue damage
Clinical Procedure
1. Preparation (Purvakarma)
- • Proper Deepana and Pachana must be completed first to ensure the digestive fire can handle the heavy fat.
2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)
The patient consumes a specific dose of warm medicated ghee early in the morning on an empty stomach. The dose is incrementally increased every day (e.g., 30ml, 60ml, 90ml) for 3 to 7 days, based on the time it takes to digest.
3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)
- • The patient must drink only warm water and avoid sleeping during the day.
- • Food is given only after the ghee is completely digested and intense hunger arises.
- • Once symptoms of complete oleation (Samyak Snigdha Lakshana) appear, Snehapana is stopped.
Patient FAQs
Will drinking ghee increase my cholesterol?
During a strict Panchakarma protocol, the ghee acts as a solvent to pull fat-soluble toxins from tissues. Because you follow a strict, fat-free liquid diet alongside it, and the process is followed by purgation (Virechana), lipid levels generally do not rise abnormally and often improve long-term.
Is it hard to drink pure ghee?
It can be challenging for some, but the ghee is medicated with herbs that improve its palatability and digestion. Drinking warm water frequently helps ease the process.
