Takradhara (Medicated Buttermilk Pouring)
in Bengaluru
Takradhara is a cooling, deeply soothing therapy where medicated buttermilk (Takra) infused with specific herbs is rhythmically poured over the forehead (Shiro Takradhara) or the entire body (Sarvanga Takradhara). It is highly effective for Pitta-related skin diseases and severe stress.
Clinical Benefits
- The ultimate cooling therapy for severe Pitta aggravation and burning sensations
- Highly effective in treating chronic skin conditions like Psoriasis and Eczema
- Relieves severe mental stress, anxiety, and insomnia
- Improves scalp health and reduces severe dandruff and hair fall
Clinical Procedure
1. Preparation (Purvakarma)
- • Buttermilk is freshly prepared and boiled with specific cooling herbs (like Musta, Amalaki) and cooled to room temperature or slightly lukewarm.
2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)
The patient lies on the Droni. The medicated buttermilk is poured in a continuous, rhythmic stream over the forehead (for mental/neurological issues) or over the entire body (for systemic skin diseases).
3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)
- • The body is wiped clean, and the buttermilk is washed off.
- • Patient must avoid cold exposure and rest.
Patient FAQs
Why buttermilk instead of oil?
Buttermilk is inherently cooling and astringent. While oil (Shirodhara) is used for Vata (dryness and wind), Takradhara is used for Pitta (heat, inflammation, psoriasis) to deeply cool the system without clogging the pores.
