Tapa Sweda (Dry Heat Fomentation)

Tapa Sweda is a method of sudation applying direct, dry heat to the body. This can be done using heated clothes, metal plates, or even by warming the hands over a fire and applying them to the painful area.

Clinical Procedure

1. Preparation (Purvakarma)

  • The affected area may be lightly oiled or left completely dry.

2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)

A thick cloth, bronze plate, or the therapist's hands are heated over a smokeless fire or hot pan and pressed firmly against the painful muscles or joints.

3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)

  • The area is kept covered to retain the heat.
