Thalam (Herbal Crown Paste)
in Bengaluru

Thalam is a traditional Kerala Ayurvedic therapy where a small quantity of medicated herbal powder, mixed with oil or herbal juices, is applied specifically to the center of the head (crown/Brahmarandhra) and left for a specific duration.

Clinical Benefits

  • Instantly cools the brain and calms severe mental agitation
  • Highly effective for high blood pressure, migraines, and insomnia
  • Relieves burning sensations in the eyes and head
  • Helps balance Pitta and Vata doshas in the cranial region

Clinical Procedure

1. Preparation (Purvakarma)

  • A specific herbal powder (like Rasnadi Churna or Kachuradi Churna) is mixed with a few drops of medicated oil or buttermilk to form a thick, sticky paste.

2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)

A small depression is made in the hair at the crown of the head, and the paste is applied in a thick layer (about the size of a coin).

3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)

  • The paste is retained for 30 to 60 minutes, then wiped off completely.

Patient FAQs

Why do you put paste on the crown after a massage?

In Kerala Ayurveda, applying a small amount of Rasnadi Churna (Thalam) to the crown after a wet therapy (like oil massage or steam) is a standard practice to prevent water/cold from entering the head and causing sinus congestion.
