Udarabhyanga is a specialized, gentle abdominal massage. It is designed to stimulate sluggish digestion, relieve trapped gas, tone the abdominal muscles, and alleviate menstrual cramps by pacifying Apana Vata.

Clinical Procedure

1. Preparation (Purvakarma)

  • Patient must have an empty stomach or wait 2-3 hours after a meal.
  • Patient lies supine with knees slightly bent to relax the abdomen.

2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)

The therapist uses warm oil (like Hingu Triguna or Dhanwantaram) and applies gentle, circular, clockwise strokes following the anatomical path of the large intestine.

3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)

  • A warm herbal compress or towel is placed over the abdomen to enhance relaxation.
