Udgharshana (Friction Massage)
in Bengaluru
Udgharshana is an intense, dry friction massage. Unlike Udvartana which uses fine powders, Udgharshana uses coarser powders, sand, or rough herbal pastes. It is a highly aggressive Kapha-reducing therapy designed to break down stubborn cellulite and fat.
Clinical Benefits
- Breaks down stubborn subcutaneous fat and cellulite rapidly
- Dilates the micro-channels (Srotas) of the skin immediately
- Relieves severe itching (Kandu) and heaviness in the body
- Stimulates lymphatic drainage aggressively
Clinical Procedure
1. Preparation (Purvakarma)
- • Coarse herbal powders (like Kolakulathadi) or specialized medicinal sand are prepared without any liquid or oil.
2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)
The therapist applies vigorous, deep friction over the body, moving against the direction of hair growth. The friction generates significant localized heat.
3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)
- • Patient must rest to let the body cool down slightly.
- • Followed by a warm bath to wash off the coarse powder.
Patient FAQs
Is Udgharshana painful?
It is not painful, but it is intense and highly stimulating. The coarse powder causes significant friction and heat, which might feel scratchy to sensitive skin, but it is highly invigorating.
