Udvartana (Ayurvedic Powder Massage)
in Bengaluru

Udvartana is a vigorous, deep-tissue massage using dry, warm herbal powders (like Kolakulathadi or Triphala). Unlike Abhyanga which uses oil and downward strokes, Udvartana uses heavy pressure in an upward direction (Pratiloma) to break down subcutaneous fat and stimulate lymphatic drainage.

Clinical Benefits

  • Highly effective for weight loss, melting localized fat, and treating cellulite
  • Excellent for treating Obesity (Sthaulya) and Hypothyroidism-related weight gain
  • Improves skin complexion, removes dead skin cells, and cures body odor
  • Stimulates sluggish circulation and heavy, lethargic Kapha dosha

Clinical Procedure

1. Preparation (Purvakarma)

  • Specific fat-burning herbal powders are heated slightly in a pan. For some patients, the powder is mixed with a very small amount of oil (Utsadana).

2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)

Therapists rub the dry powder vigorously all over the patient's body in a direction opposite to hair growth (bottom to top). The friction creates heat, opening pores and mobilizing fat.

3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)

  • The patient is usually given a hot herbal steam bath (Swedana) to further melt fat.
  • Followed by a warm water bath to wash off the powder.

Patient FAQs

Does this massage hurt?

It can be slightly abrasive because it uses dry powder and vigorous friction. However, it is not painful. The friction is highly stimulating and leaves you feeling incredibly light and energetic.
