Vaitarana Basti is a highly celebrated, specialized enema used primarily for severe pain management. It uniquely contains tamarind, cow urine (Gomutra), rock salt, jaggery, and oil. It is the absolute drug of choice for Sciatica (Gridhrasi) and Rheumatoid Arthritis (Amavata).

Clinical Benefits

  • Provides rapid, dramatic relief from severe Sciatica pain radiating down the leg
  • Powerfully digests and expels Ama (toxins) causing Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Relieves intense lower back pain and spinal stiffness
  • Helps resolve severe inflammatory joint diseases

Clinical Procedure

1. Preparation (Purvakarma)

  • A specific emulsion is created by vigorously mixing Rock salt, Jaggery, Sesame oil, Tamarind water, and Cow urine/Kashaya in a precise order.

2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)

The lukewarm mixture is administered rectally on an empty stomach. It acts rapidly to detach toxins and relieve nerve compression.

3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)

  • After evacuation, the patient is bathed and fed a light diet. It is often followed by an Anuvasana (oil) enema the next day.

Patient FAQs

Why does it use Tamarind and Gomutra?

Tamarind provides a specific sour (Amla) quality that instantly penetrates and relieves nerve pain, while Gomutra is sharp and alkaline, cutting through sticky inflammatory toxins (Ama) that cause Rheumatoid Arthritis.
