Surgical/Para-surgical Protocol

Vrana Shodhana (Wound Cleansing)
in Bengaluru

Vrana Shodhana is the crucial first step in Ayurvedic wound management. It involves aggressively cleaning, debriding, and detoxifying a sloughy, infected, or non-healing wound (Dushta Vrana) using powerful antimicrobial and scraping herbal decoctions.

Clinical Benefits

  • Rapidly removes pus, slough, and dead tissue from chronic diabetic foot ulcers
  • Stops foul odor and heavy discharge from infected wounds
  • Changes the wound bed from a highly alkaline, infected state to a clean, healthy state ready for healing
  • Prevents the need for drastic surgical amputations in severe diabetic ulcers

Clinical Procedure

1. Preparation (Purvakarma)

  • Strong astringent and cleansing decoctions (like Panchavalkala or Triphala Kashaya) are prepared.

2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)

The wound is thoroughly washed and irrigated with the warm decoction. Slough and dead tissue are physically removed (debridement). Sometimes, cleansing pastes (Shodhana Kalka) are packed into the wound for 24 hours.

3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)

  • Once the wound is bright red, clean, and free of pus (Shuddha Vrana), the therapy switches to Vrana Ropana (healing).

Patient FAQs

Why not use modern antiseptics?

Prolonged use of strong modern antiseptics (like Betadine/Hydrogen Peroxide) can destroy new, healthy healing cells. Ayurvedic herbal washes (like Panchavalkala) aggressively kill bacteria but are gentle enough not to destroy the new granulation tissue.
