Internal Therapy Protocol
Yoga Basti (8 Enema Course)
in Bengaluru
Yoga Basti is a highly specific, 8-day therapeutic course of enemas used in Panchakarma. It consists of a carefully calculated alternating pattern of 5 Anuvasana (oil) enemas and 3 Niruha (decoction) enemas to systematically detach, flush, and deeply pacify Vata dosha.
Clinical Benefits
- Provides a complete, short-course systemic detoxification of Vata
- Highly effective for acute flare-ups of sciatica, arthritis, and back pain
- Balances the gut microbiome and clears the lower GI tract
- Shorter and better tolerated than Kala or Karma Basti
Clinical Procedure
1. Preparation (Purvakarma)
- • Patient undergoes preparatory oil massage (Abhyanga) and steam (Swedana).
2. Main Action (Pradhana Karma)
The 8-day pattern is administered: Day 1: Oil, Day 2: Decoction, Day 3: Oil, Day 4: Decoction, Day 5: Oil, Day 6: Decoction, Day 7: Oil, Day 8: Oil. (Total 5 Oil, 3 Decoction).
3. Post-Therapy (Paschatkarma)
- • Strict adherence to a light, warm diet (Peyadi Krama) and adequate rest.
Patient FAQs
Why alternate between oil and decoction?
Decoction enemas (Niruha) aggressively scrub and pull toxins out of the colon but can cause dryness. Oil enemas (Anuvasana) lubricate and protect the colon. Alternating them ensures safe, deep cleansing without dehydrating the tissues.
